These Ten Richest Women In 2022

The combined wealth of the ten richest women in the world in 2022 is more than $400 billion. 

Düsseldorf The US magazine "Forbes" publishes the  list of the richest people in the world every year.  Since the top ten is exclusively occupied by men, there is also a ranking of the world's richest women.

But who is hidden among the current top ten, how has the fortune changed compared to the previous year and who is currently the richest woman in the world?

This is shown by the current ranking with information on assets in billions of US dollars and the country of origin of the billionaires.

These are the ten richest women in the world in the Forbes 2022 ranking

10th place: Iris Fontbona, Chile

Iris Fontbona is the 10th richest woman in the world in 2022. The entrepreneur and her children control the mining company Antofagasta. She is the richest person in Chile with a fortune of $23.3 billion .

9th place: Gina Rinehart, Australia

Gina Rinehart is the Chair of mining and agriculture company Hancock Prospecting Group. It owns 1.2 percent of Australia's total landmass, according to the Guardian. Gina Rinehart is currently Australia's richest person with a net worth of  $23.6 billion as of 2022 - ninth place.

8th place: Susanne Klatten, Germany

The Quandt heiress  Susanne Klatten is in eighth place in the ranking of the richest women in the world. She currently has assets of $27.7 billion - an increase of almost $11 billion compared to 2021. In 2021, the German still had over 16.8 billion US dollars. 

Susanne Klatten owns 19.1 percent of the automobile manufacturer BMW . Her late mother, Johanna Quandt, was the third wife of the legendary industrialist Herbert Quandt, who helped BMW become a dominant force in the luxury market.

7th place: Yang Huiyan and family, China

Yang Huiyan has a net worth of $29.6 billion as of 2022 , ranking 7th in this ranking. In 2021, the Chinese woman's fortune was still 20.3 billion US dollars. She was also seventh at the time and was able to defend her place in the ranking of the richest women in the world.

Yang Huiyan owns 58 percent of real estate developer Country Garden Holdings, a stake largely transferred to her in 2007 by her father, Yeung Kwok Keung.

6th place: Jacqueline Mars, USA

Jacqueline Mars owns an estimated one-third of the Mars food company, the world's largest confectionery company, founded by her grandfather. She worked for the company for almost 20 years and served on the group's board of directors until 2016. 

In 2022, the wealth of the 81-year-old will amount to 31.3 billion US dollars  - sixth place in the ranking of the richest women in the world.

5th place: Miriam Adelson, USA

The Israeli-American doctor Miriam Adelson made it to fifth place in the ranking. In 1991 she married casino magnate Sheldon Adelson and later inherited his fortune. Compared to the last ranking, she was able to increase her assets by around seven billion US dollars to 38.2 billion US dollars .

4th place: Julia Koch and family, USA

Julia Koch took fourth place. In 2019, the company heiress was not even among the top ten richest women in the world. 

Julia Koch and her three children inherited a 42 percent stake in Koch Industries from her husband David, who died in August 2019 at the age of 79. Born in Iowa, Koch moved to New York City in the 1980s and worked as an assistant to fashion designer Adolfo. 

Today, "Forbes" estimates the fortune of the 58-year-old at 46.4 billion US dollars .

3rd place: MacKenzie Scott, USA

MacKenzie Scott is the third richest woman in the world. She is the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, to whom she was married for 25 years. They divorced in mid-2019. As part of the divorce settlement, Jeff Bezos transferred 25 percent of his Amazon stake to his ex-wife, for a total of 4 percent of the company's stock. That leaves 50-year-old MacKenzie Scott's net worth at $53 billion .

2nd place: Alice Walton, USA

After the American Alice Walton last took first place in the ranking, she will be the second richest woman in the world in 2022. The daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton is currently worth $61.8 billion . Last year, however, the 71-year-old ranked first among the richest women with total assets of $54.4 billion .

Alice Walton didn't just benefit from her father's business idea. Her brothers Rob and Jim Walton are also among the richest people in the world. Alice Walton has focused on curating art - rather than working for Walmart like her siblings Rob and Jim did. Together, the Walton family will have a combined fortune of $238.2 billion in 2022, making it the richest family in the world.

1st place: Francoise Bettencourt Meyers and family, France

In first place in the ranking is French Francoise Bettencourt, granddaughter of the founder of  L'Oréal . The richest woman in the world will be worth $ 73.6  billion in 2022 . This puts her in first place in the ranking of the richest women in the world. Last year, the French woman was the second richest woman in the world with assets of $48.9 billion.

Bettencourt Meyers, 67, and her family own a third of the shares in L'Oréal, which posted its best sales growth in more than a decade in 2019.

For comparison: According to Forbes, the world's richest man Elon Musk owns 236 billion dollars. The tenth richest man Mukesh Ambandi, CEO of the Indian textile company Reliance, has a fortune of 90.3 billion US dollars, around 17 billion more than the richest woman in the world.
